(January 2003) Recovering from the holidays and planning for the New Year.

Did you party hearty? I know I did! I remember the old saying "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall diet!" Time to get aquainted with salads and the gym I think!

On a more optimistic note, we are well on our way to planning a fun filled year! Especially when it gets warmer. In the mean time, we're hoping you might have suggestions for winter compatible fun! People do have fun in the winter you know! You don't HAVE to be miserable! (I think)

In other news, the membership chairman reminds me to remind all of you who have not sent in a membership update to do so, so that the friendship roster will include wonderful, sweet you!

(February 2003) Recovering from the winter and planning for the New Year.

I'm still in recovery mode; from winter that is! I've been suffering through a nasty cold, sore throat and tooth ache. I am definitely one of those people who has become spoiled by the mild winters we've had for the last few years. Maybe that durn ground hog won't see his shadow! As a result we've gotten off to a slow start so far. I am confident though that things will pick up. In the mean time, other groups have several wild events slated for February and these are listed in the newsletter.

With a little luck and diligence, I am confident that we will see some more of our own fun events in March. One thing that has been a success is the idea of moving the brunch to different restaurants each month. This allows us to enjoy some variety and to even schedule some non-smoking events.

Finally, this month my partner and I will be receiving the third and final shot for Hepatitis. For more info on this click here.

(March 2003) Recovering from Vacation

Well things got off to a slow start this month. Seems I'd had quite enough of winter, and with that ground hog predicting more to come, and the winter temperatures and storms showing every sign of making the prophecy come true, I decided it was time for a strategic retreat to a warmer climate! It was wonderful, fun filled, all too brief, and yet I find myself back in the cold, but at least with my "batteries" recharged!

Seems to me that with this harsh winter, the celbration of Sping is even more important. I have visions of a "Welcome the Spring" party to take place in April. Watch this space (or the events page) for more details.

Not much to report otherwise; We had to delay getting the last installment of our hepatitus shots, but I am assured that the last shot can be delayed a few months with no ill effects. We will be getting the shot in March!

(April 2003) Spring is in the Air!

Well it's finally over! Winter and yucky weather. That's not all though, after a month delay due to vacation and travel arrangements, my partner an I have finally gotten the last of our (three) Hepatitus shots. And you know they did'nt hurt a bit, not in the arm and not in the pocket book either. They were painless and FREE! So I'll make one last (yah right) plea to all of you reading to protect yourselves and those you love and get the shots!

So once again the info you'll need is: Where and when?

"The Washington West Project" 1201 Locust St (the corner of 12th and Locust), the last Friday of EVERY month from 9PM till Midnight!

In the mean time, get out and enjoy spring, the nice weather and above all enjoy LIFE!

(May 2003) Crossing the line!

Let me begin by saying that I understand that the Prime Timers of Philadelphia is not supposed to a political or social action group. There are however things that need to be said, and given this soap box, I intend to say them!

In Pennsylvania, sex between consenting men of proper age is legal. That is the law in this state. Sen. Rick Santorum is supposed to represent PA. Instead he has chosen to advance his own personal agenda using the authority granted him by his senatorship. He has chosen to ignore the wishes of his constituency and advance his own. And by comparing gay sex to bigamy, polygamy and incest, he has promoted intolerance and hatred of some of his constituents! Being one of those constituents, I find this most objectionable!

Other than a bunch of hot air, ranting and raving, does all of this mean anything? I hope so. For a start, I urge you all to write the senator and tell him to mend his ways. Tell him to represent the people of this state. Or at least, I urge you to remember what he said when it comes time to vote... and VOTE!

(June 2003) Let the Fun Begin!

The Prime Timers of Philadelphia is a social club, so after last month's foray into politics, it's time to get back to basics. Time to focus on having fun! In May, we had a highly successful spring fling social. I am glad to say that we had a good turnout and a good time. In June, we reprise our Saturday Night Dinner at BUMP. We did this before in April, and the plan had been to do one of these events every third month. The event was so popular, and so many people asked about it, that we've decided to do one of these every other month! Not to be outdone, Ian brings us the third edition of his Blue & Buff party in Vineland NJ. And while June is Pride month and that can be rather political, remember, have fun and enjoy life! That's what being gay is all about!

For more details about these and other events see our events page or download a copy of the June 2003 newsletter.

(July 2003) Catching my breath!

Let me start off be saying what a wild month June 2003 has turned out to be. This is traditionally gay pride month, but this year, it turned out to be even more special than I could have imagined. First off, Canada has become only the fourth country in the world to allow gay people to get married. This after the government of Canada finally saw the writing on the wall after a fourth provincial court declared the het only definition of marriage to be unconstitutional. Secondly, the Supreme Court of America finally got 'round to the idea that "Life, Liberty and (especially) the Pursuit of Happiness" should apply to all Americans. The court struck down Texas' gay only sodomy law and then took the extra step to strike down it's own 1986 judgment thus killing off all sodomy laws. And perhaps most importantly, someone has finally told the weather that this is summer, dammit! Bring on those lazy, hazy days I crave so very much. Between partying, getting out to see the sights, and the political changes, this promises to be a fun time indeed! Hope to see you soon!

(August 2003) Coming Soon (We hope)!

Well this is turning out to be a very busy summer season. To start off, our brunch in the wilds of Exton, showed that a fair number of the club members can benefit from changing the venue from Center City once in a while. We had a differnt crowd than the usual, with some familiar faces thrown into the mix. Overall, I'd have to say it really worked out well.

At one time, the club used to have monthly business meetings at the William Way Center. Maybe I'm typical, but I never managed to attend one. By the time I took over as President, these meetings had been discontinued. They still are. The cloeset we get to a regular meeting is the newsletter meeting. That is primarily attended by Ian, John, Myself and sometimes Gerry. To allow for greater membership participation, we plan to hold a general meeting on Saturday October 25th at 5:00PM. Food and beverages will be provided, and everyone will have the chance to haver their say! Watch this space for more details.

(September 2003) Business, business, business...

Part 1, National Business: Well September is coming and the summer is ending! We are all still recovering from the recent Supreme Court ruling on sodomy laws and the states role in policing peoples private lives. The enemies of freedom are not taking a break however. They are as busy as ever. It's not good enough for them that there exists a federal law legalizing discrimination against gay people, along with state laws to add insult to injury. Thay want a consitutional amendment to enshrine their bigotry at the core of American law. This is not right! The same group that fought against the bigoted Dr Laura show, now has a web site to fight this new attack! Surf over to DontAmend.com and take a look!

Part 2, Club Business: At one time, the club used to have monthly business meetings at the William Way Center. Maybe I'm typical, but I never managed to attend one. By the time I took over as President, these meetings had been discontinued. They still are. The closest we get to a regular meeting is the newsletter meeting. That is primarily attended by Ian, John, Myself and sometimes Gerry. To allow for greater membership participation, we plan to hold a general meeting on Saturday October 25th at 5:00PM. Food and beverages will be provided, and everyone will have the chance to have their say!

(October 2003) Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

This month we are bringing back an activity that used to be very common. At one time, the club used to have monthly business meetings at the William Way Center. Maybe I'm typical, but I never managed to attend one. By the time I took over as President, these meetings had been discontinued. They still are. The closest we get to a regular meeting is the newsletter meeting. That is primarily attended by Ian, John, myself and sometimes Gerry. To allow for greater membership participation, we plan to hold a general meeting on Saturday October 25th at 4:00PM. Food and beverages will be provided, and everyone will have the chance to have their say! I look forward to seeing a good turnout and hearing what you want your club to do for you! To reserve a spot please call Morris K at 215-545-7219.

(November 2003) And they're off!

I am very happy to say that the Club's General Meeting was a great success. There was a dynamic and interesting exchange of ideas designed to make the club more fun for everyone. Announced at that meeting was a new program designed to encourage more participation. To check out the new Party Incentive Program just click here!

In addition, it brings me great pleasure to announce the election of Charles C. to the previous vacant post of Vice-President. According to Chuck, he is very well suited to this post as he knows all about vice!

(December 2003) Home for the Holidays

As I write this, I am wondering how I will deal with all the pounds I gained over the Thanksgiving weekend and stand to gain from the left-overs sitting so seductively in my fridge. Why is it that every year I plan the food for the festivities as if each dish must suffice, by itself, for everyone to eat and eat well. Oh well, better extra food than to run out and leave people go hungry.

I hope all of you enjoy a happy and safe holiday season and I look forward to seeing more of all of you in the New Year!
